With the success of its new Lexus ES-350, Toyota has kept analysts and fans of luxury sedans busy, talking about the product since its global launch.
“If you’re looking for relaxed, serene transportation in an entry-level luxury sedan, the 2016 Lexus ES 350 is a fine choice,” says a popular online auto journal, edmund.com.
The Lexus plant’s President in Georgetown, Ky, Wil James Jr., attributes the success of the Lexus model to Toyota’s investment in its 750-member Lexus work force.
He had the opportunity to prove the point on Tuesday when the Lexus line earned a Platinum level award for initial plant quality from J.D. Power and Associates for the Lexus ES-350 in its first year of production.
This also reveberated in Nigeria as its representative and authorised distributor, Toyota Nigeria Limited, last week held an interactive session in Lagos on the brand with its dealers and customers.
The engagement forum was led by the firm’s Managing Director of the company, Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo.
Speaking at the Centre for Automotive Research’s Management Briefing Seminars, James said Lexus team members spent 1.5 million hours training prior to launching the ES-350.
The training included weeks of studying in a library-like setting inside the plant, field trips to local Lexus dealers to speak with both salespeople and customers and the purchase of 22 Japan-built ES-350s which were taken apart and put back together several times.
“While advanced technology becomes more and more critical to our industry … at Toyota, we still believe that the single most accurate and valuable tool on our production line continues to be a highly skilled and well-trained team member,” James said.
The Lexus line also eschews air-powered hand tools in favour of quieter, more precise electric hand tools, according to him.
The 2016 Lexus ES 350 is said to have received improved sound-deadening in the cabin, a number of minor interior tweaks and freshened front and rear styling.
Some of its new features/options are the Bi-LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, a revised safety package, which has an updated version of the Lexus’ pre-collision system with pedestrian detection capability.
“With lots of cabin space, comfortable seats, plenty of premium materials, and a smooth and quiet ride, the 2016 Lexus ES is a good choice for buyers looking for a luxurious cruiser,” the reviewer states.
The 2016 Lexus ES 350 seats five and comes with a 3.5-litre V6 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. The ES is available in one trim, but a number of packages and features are available.
