I’m still active on stage’, Victor Olaiya debunks retirement story

Legendary highlife musician, Dr. Victor Abimbola Olaiya (OON), has debunked a news story published last weekend in a national newspaper that he has retired from live performances, saying he is still very much active on stage.

Reacting to the story in a release, the ace trumpeter stated unequivocally that it is untrue, adding that he has not considered quitting music not to talk of going on retirement.

According to him, the story must have been a figment of the writer’s imagination “because I have not granted any press interview where I mentioned anything about going on retirement, while no reporter ever spoke with my manager whose name was mentioned in the story over the matter.”

“I want to state categorically that I still perform live on stage with my band, the International All Stars Orchestra, every Saturday at the Papingo Night Club of Stadium Hotel in Surulere, Lagos, while I also honour social engagements across the country,” Olaiya added.

The octogenarian, who did a remix of one of his evergreen songs in collaboration with 2Baba about three years ago is however, full of gratitude to his teeming fans and other lovers of highlife music across the globe who have expressed concern through several telephone calls and personal visits since the story broke.

Olaiya assured his fans many more years of dishing out the best of highlife music.
