No more data tariff increment, says NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it has suspended any further action on its directive to telecommunication firms to introduce price floor for data segment from December 1, 2016.

According to NCC, this became neccessary following the various concerns that have greeted the intial announcement.

Mr. Tony Ojobo, the Commission’s Director, Public Affairs said in a Press Release today that the decision to suspend this directive was taken after due consultation with industry stakeholders and the general complaints by consumers across the country.

“The Commission has weighed all of this and consequently asked all operators to maintain the status quo until the conclusion of a study to determine new retail prices for broadband and data services in the country.” Ojobo stated.
