It was indeed a day of joy yesterday (May Day) as residents of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government trooped out in large numbers to give support to the aspiration of business woman and socialite, Hon. Fatima Aduke Mohammed, who is aspiring to represent the Ifako Ijaiye Federal constituency in the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
They noted that the giant strides of the businesswoman and philanthropist are being felt across the local government as she has been empowering a lot of residents.
At a colourful carnival held at State High School, Oko Oba, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, who graced the epoch-making occasion as the special guest of honour also passed a vote of confidence in and endorsed her aspiration.
George urged PDP members not to listen to any propaganda being peddled around as according to him, propaganda is always peddled any time election is coming.
The former Deputy National Chairman congratulated the people of Ifako Ijaiye for having such a woman who has the love of her people in mind in their midst.
“Fatima is a loyal and dedicated member of our party in your local government. These are the type of people who should be politicians. We don’t want politrickians. Such people who are politrickians are nothing but thieves and selfish people.”
“We need people who will render services to the communities. People who will remember that these are my followers; these are the people who will tell you, you have our backing.
“I thank God for Fatima. What does the party have to give anyone now, but to give you truth and words of encouragement. I am very impressed that you (Fatima) can singlehandedly be able to mobilise these people and organise this rally.
“I didn’t give her a kobo and I am sure the party didn’t give her anything as well. I have been hearing about all the good things you have been doing.
God will direct you. God will bless you. You will be a pride of your people especially this local government. I am proud.” He submitted.
In her own submission, Hon. Mohammed, who could not hide her excitement, thanked the people for believing in her and rallying around her.
The PDP stalwart urged Nigerian workers to relax and worry less as better days are on the way.
“I am sure that very soon the PDP will come back to power again and change the rubbish change they are giving us and live will get better once again for Nigerians.
“For the people of Ifako Ijaiye, I would say better days are ahead. ‘Irorun ti de tan’.
“A new Ifako Ijaiye is possible. And that is why I am saying this is a bold step. I need the electorates to join me in making it a reality.”
Speaking on the significant of holding the annual carnival on Workers Days, she noted; “We are here today to celebrate our annual PDP carnival to celebrate our people and the workers. It’s a day to show our solidarity with the Nigerian workers.
On the chances of the PDP in the coming elections, Mohammed posited; “It is very obvious that the PDP is coming back to power. Take for instance, the workers in Lagos have just passed a vote of no confidence on the Governor Ambode-led administration.
“As at now, it doesn’t look like anything is working for them. You find out the president has gone several abroad and it just seems he is out of tune with happenstances in the country. It is obvious that PDP must just have to come back to power. They don’t just understand. They are in power because they were just desperate to be in power at all cost. They do not understand the concept of power of governance. Only PDP knows what governance is in totality.
Meanwhile, one of the major highlight of the rally was the formal recognition of over 200 former members of the All Progressive Congress, APC who delightfully decamped to PDP.
Welcoming them into the party, as he handed over membership cards and party flags to them, Chief Bode George noted; “When you stand by the truth, you stand by just, you stand by righteousness, don’t be afraid. The time for the PDP to make a difference is now. This is the time for PDP to take its rightful position. Whoever wants to be part of this train, let them come now.
Part of dignitaries who graced the occasion were Chief Deji Doherty, a PDP gubernatorial aspirant in the state, state exco members, as well as ward executives.
