Popular African Magic’s Gbajumo Osere Presenter, Doyin Kukoyi on Easter Monday fulfilled one of her dreams as she unveiled a standard restaurant in the heart of Maryland, Lagos.
The multi-talented Nollywood actress, producer cum compere told The DailyBells that she had over the years been making frantic efforts trying to open a restaurant to complement her water business as well as providing sumptuous and affordable homemade food for the people in the environs.
According to Kukoyi, Alake’s Place is indeed a dream come true.
Alake’s place, she noted, is finally here to cater for people who want quality and affordable homemade food such as amala served with ewedu and gbegiri, tuwo, jollof rice and so on.
It was indeed glitz and fun at the grand opening as the atmosphere was soon turned into carnival like with the arrival of guests, well-wishers and customers in the environs who had been waiting patiently to have a feel of the Alake’s Place delicacies.
The Gbajumo Osere presenter did not however disappoint as majority of the people present at the opening who ate one type of food or the other could not hide their feelings as they testified to the quality of the food.
Among dignitaries that came around to show her her the needed love were some of her industry colleagues.
Interestingly, the duo of Mrs Toyin Afolayan, popularly known as Lola Idije and versatile actor, Kunle Afod stole the show of the day as they served people amala as well as tuwo.
Speaking on the epoch-making event, Kunle Afod, who confessed to The DailyBells in an interview that he really enjoyed the amala, gbegiri with ewedu which they called abula in his place in Ibadan said aside the food being delicious and of good quality, what made him more happy was the fact that Alake’s Place foods are prepared in a clean environment.
“The most important thing about me in life is to be neat. Even if your food is very delicious and the environment is not neat or the way you dish your food is not neat, I can never eat such food.
“But here,(Alake’s Place), the food is not only delicious, the environs is very neat.” Afod submitted.
Commending Doyin Kukoyi’s entrepreneurial spirit, Afod told The Daily Bells; “As a matter of fact, before now, Doyin used to sell water and when you sell water you need food. Ever since she’s been selling water, I knew that one day she would go into food business.
“She is a very serious-minded person. She’s not a kind of slay mama celebrities that are common in town today. She’s a cool headed woman. For this her concept, I believe it is a very good one.
Speaking in the same vein, Toyin Afolayan, popularly known as Lola Idije noted; “I am so happy for Doyin Kukoyi because she’s like a daughter to me. If you look at her contemporaries, how many of them have the initiative to do something like this. Even though this place is not yet as big as expected, but she didn’t mind starting from somewhere.
“She is a good example of saying you don’t need to wait till you have millions in your account before you start off something.
According to Madam Afolayan, food business is a very lucrative one because food is very important to the body.
“There’s no one that would wake up in the morning without thinking about what to eat, except he’s fasting..
“Doyin has really done quite a lot for humanity. Take for instance, today, she has decided to give out this food for everyone that comes. Anything you want to eat has been made available. As a result of that, I know it’s quite obvious that the business would strive. God will definitely bless the work of her hands.” She noted.
