Excitement As Harmony Estate CDA Commissions Two Tarred Roads

It was jubilation and back slapping galore on Saturday, as residents of Ifako Harmony Estate Residents Association (IHERA) in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State inaugurated two roads in the community, constructed as a self help project by residents of the estate at about N4 million.

It was the first time such would be happening in the community. The cost of the construction was borne by residents of the affected streets, with counterpart funding coming from the central purse of the CDA.

IHERA Chairman, Barrister Shina Agbesusi described the event as epochal.

He praised the estate’s immediate past executive for coming up with the initiative of tarring all roads in the estate.

He said though the executive could not commence the project, they left a seed fund to embark on the capital project within the estate.

He added that though only four roads within the estate were earlier penciled down for reconstruction by the executive, pressures are on the executive council to extend the gesture to other roads within the estate.

He said: “Though only four roads Adeniran Famoriyo Crescent, Adeleke Odunuga Street, Austin Coker Avenue and Adeleke Odunuga Close were the only ones pencilled down for reconstruction, residents of other streets such as Kolapo Crescent, Kemi Shodiya Close and Bello Adogie Close have to be included on the scheme.”

He said though the executive council is committed to extending the road project to all nooks and crannies of the estate, such is only possible based on available resources.

He therefore charged all residents to promptly pay their infrastructure levies and not wait until the enforcement gang swoop on them to force them to pay.

“It is because of the vast responsibilities ahead of us that we are pleading with all our residents to pay all levies and dues because it is this that we would use in fixing these projects,” Agbesusi said.

Unveiling the plaque and cutting the tape to open the Adeniran Famoriyo Crescent, Mrs Kemi Fadipe, widow of a former Chairman of the estate praised the estate for the honour it has continued to bestow on her husband.

Also speaking while unveiling the Adeleke Odunuga Street plaque and cutting the tape declaring the street open, former Chairman Mr Tunde Akinwunmi praised his successor for bringing the vision to reality.

He recalled that the idea to tar the roads in the estate started as a dream at one of the executive council meeting two years ago, and praised his successor for successfully delivering on two of the roads within a very short time while moves are already at advanced stage.
