Excitement as Jimoh Ibrahim clears National Mirror, Newswatch salary arrears

Jimoh Ibrahim

Staffers of National Mirror newspaper and Newswatch Times went on wild jubilation yesterday after the publisher, Jimoh Ibrahim , CFR, offset their arrears of salaries as they were seen smiling to the banks to deposit their cheques.

The global economic downturn had affected several media houses especially the print medium in Nigeria, leading to inability to pay salaries for months

But in spite of the lull in the newspaper industry and high cost of production materials, the publisher has displayed rare commitment to make the workers happy by defraying the salary arrears.

The publisher, who had ordered Newswatch Times to begin online publication last month, enjoined the workers to show more commitment at work to increase productivity.

He also charged National Mirror staff to key into the new commitment from the shareholders to make the brand a market leader in Nigeria through innovation and absolute desire to compete effectively.

The publisher also assured the staff of steady salary payment henceforth stressing that all hands must be on deck to avoid the past pitfalls and wastages by shunning all praxis of behavior that can affect high productivity.
