NewsFlash: Again, Buhari Shuns Lagos’ 2-Day Visit, Sends Osinbajo Instead

There are indications that President Mohammadu Buhari, who is expected to pay a 2-day working to Lagos State, might have cancelled the much publicised visit.

According to reports exclusively gathered by the DailyBells, the President might be having the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo represent him.

A source who craves anonymity said the president might have cancelled the visit due to ‘security reports’ and the timing which coincides with the Easter celebration.

The President, who is expected in Lagos on Thursday, March 29, is expected to commission the new Ikeja Bus Terminal, attend a colloquium in honour of national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and as well as embark on tour of the Eko Atlantic City, among others.

While major roads are to be shut during the visit, the Lagos State government has also declared Thursday work free day to enable Lagosians come out enmasse to welcome the president.

The DailyBells recalls that two years ago, precisely May 22, 2016, the President who was to visit Lagos, the economic capital of the country, also on a 2-day working visit had at the last minute sent the Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo to represent him.

The President was reported to have cancelled the visit due to ‘an ear infection’.

During the visit, which could have been his first since winning the 2015 Presidential elections, was scheduled to commission the newly rehabilitated Ago Palace Way in Lagos as well as the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Rescue Unit, at Cappa, near Oshodi.

In a statement by the state’s then Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, President Buhari was also expected to commission and hand over security equipment and vehicles contributed by the State Government to the security agencies, to beef up security in the state.

Ayorinde said that the President would participate as Special Guest of Honour at a breakfast session with Corporate Lagos, to be hosted by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, at the Lagos State House, Marina.

According to Ayorinde, after the breakfast session, President Buhari would have a short session with the public service at the State House, Ikeja.

He, however, urged residents to bear with law enforcement agents and traffic control authorities who would effect road diversions in some of the routes that the President’s motorcade would pass through during the visit.

However, while all that remained unfilled dream having the president visit Lagos, on the same day, President Buhari was in Abuja receiving the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun at the Villa.
